First Trial halted

It is normal practice in a Crown Court Trial
for the prosecutor to set out the background to the case
in an opening address.

In this case, Chubb showed to the jury
a number of placards that Tim Wilmot had displayed.

All made clear criminal allegations
against named council officers,
and some had the word "BASTARDS!" at the top.

Chubb was busy warming to his task
of making Tim Wilmot look like an unbalanced lunatic
making threats to kill,
possessing machine gun parts,
and displaying very rude placards.

Unfortunately for Chubb,
Tim Wilmot had forseen the possibility
of his placards being brought into Court,
and had typed out detailed allegations on A4 sheets of paper
that were pasted on the reverse of a placard.

Tim Wilmot interrupted Chubb's character assassination,
and invited him to read out the text on the reverse,
which he did.

As the implications of what he was reading dawned on him,
Chubb looked at the Judge,
and they went into a huddle,
and brought the first Trial to a rapid end.
